about us

Pre-school room

This is the main room at Jumblies in which we care for up to 26 children aged 2-5 years.

Our Deputy Manager, Hannah Phillis is in charge of this room assisted by a qualified and experienced staff team. Photographs of all staff are displayed on the right of the entrance door; qualifications are on the board of the hall. Each child has two key persons allocated to them.

Two Preschool sessions are provided in this room, one in the morning one in the afternoon. Children can get funding for these sessions from the term after their third birthday during term time. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to plan for the children throughout the day. Key persons regularly observe their children. These observations are linked to the EYFS and collected in the child’s ‘Learning Journey’, which is regularly reviewed with parents. Observations are also used to ensure that planned activities are based on children’s interests and experiences.

We also care for children who attend Jumblies for most of the day in this room and the following activities are always available for free play.

The room is divided into several areas:

  • Paint easel, water and sand tray. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately.
  • Home and role play corner (kitchen, washing machine, dolls, dressing up and opportunities for mark making)
  • Mathematical area (counting and  sorting, tracing, rulers and tape measures, number activities)
  • Computer, with a variety of games to choose from.
  • Writing and drawing corner (a variety of paper, tracing cards, colouring in sheets, name tracing, postcards, shopping lists)
  • Creative table (cutting, sticking, painting, junk modelling), cleared at snack time, snack consists of fresh fruit, crackers or rich tea biscuits, milk or water.
  • Play dough table
  • Book corner (which is also our quiet corner)
  • Outside play area.

The weekly planning is displayed on the baby and toddler room door.

We encourage all children to spend some time outside whatever the weather.
For children who require a nap we have mats available, which will be put in a quiet corner to allow for some rest. Please inform a senior member of staff if your child needs to be given prescribed medication. Medication is to be kept in the kitchen out of the reach of children.

To help your child settle into Jumblies successfully we advise you to visit the setting before your child starts and spend some time here for your child to be able to familiarise him/herself with the Nursery and the staff. We can arrange to visit you at home if you feel this would help your child settle in.

Please provide your child with the following named items:

  • A packed lunch if your child stays with us over lunch.
  • A change of clothes, nappies and wet wipes if needed.
  • Sheet and blanket if your child requests a nap.
  • Sun cream and hat in the summer.
  • A piece of fruit to share at snack time.
